Bones & Calaveras wooden tombstone is part of a collection of six hand-painted wooden tombstones, Tumbas Para Los Muertitos, created in loving memory of my grandparents who passed in 2024. Painting these pieces became a way to honor their lives and celebrate the memories I hold close.
In Bones & Calaveras, I envisioned the human chest in skeletal form as the background, a symbol of both fragility and resilience. I wanted to create something where the vibrant yellow could shine through while still carrying depth and meaning. The skeletal chest felt like the perfect balance, representing the light that continues to radiate from within, even after one’s physical form has passed.
