The Pared de Calaveritas (Wall of Sugar Skulls) wooden tombstone is part of a collection of six hand-painted wooden tombstones, Tumbas Para Los Muertitos, created in loving memory of my grandparents, who passed in 2024. Painting these pieces became a way to honor their lives and celebrate the memories I hold close.
Pared de Calaveritas is my second favorite piece in the series. The background was inspired by the beauty of hand-painted tile work, with each small section featuring a different design. The mix of colors and patterns symbolizes how every memory, just like every tile, holds its own story and meaning.
